Taken through September and October 2020 with OCAD University, the Digital Design Principles course taught me the basics of digital design with six applied lessons completed in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe InDesign. Projects included posters, book covers, emotion booklets, magazine spreads, resume formatting, and logo redesigns.
This poster was designed based on the film Knives Out by Rian Johnson; it is a minimalist take on the central prop of the film, a circular arrangement of knives. The assignment demonstrated use of the Pen tool to create or recreate shapes and fonts.
The book cover was a minimalist take on the Stephen King book series, The Dark Tower. This made use of font principles as well as layering in Adobe Illustrator.
A magazine spread made with text from an article by Zoe Tunnell, the Persona 5 magazine spread used existing art assets from the original game and fonts based on text commonly found in menus and dialogue. The assignment taught further uses for fonts as well as columns and page design in Adobe InDesign.
The final assignment involved the redesign of a logo package for a corporation. I selected Scholastic and used different opacities to create a line of motion in the logo, while using a more modern take on their serif font in Adobe Illustrator.
